In June, I had three paintings in Art in the Barn, a fundraising show for Essex County Greenbelt, a regional land conservation group, which is always a fun event.

I sold the far right one - nice! I drove to the site a few times and made the most of the trip by bringing my sketchbook. I have set a goal to do more art outdoors this summer.

A few years ago I was given a used, Julian easel which I have been using in the studio for oil painting, but not as much outside - when all loaded up, it weighs a ton. Before splurging on a lighter set up, I want to see if ‘painting’ outside is actually something I am going to do. Not just bringing a sketchbook along, but more of a plein air set up with oil paint (or waterbased oils). I started by taking a one day plein air painting class with artist Todd Bonita. I used waterbased oils for this class and a painting medium that gave them more of an oil paint feel.

The class was challenging and fun, and although it was raining for most of the day, I think would be something I’d like to learn more about. Currently researching pochade boxes with the UGo small box being the front runner.
Indoors, I also did some sketches and studio play…

I also doodled around in a small accordion journal with some of the orange blossom sketches from last month.
As well as sitting outside sketching shadows in the yard!

Thank you for following along!
